Exploring Chiang Mai, Thailand || 3 Days 2 Nights

So it is finally my Semester Break now! And it is time for a short getaway like finally!
Me and my friends (another 3 of them) had bought flight ticket to Chiang Mai from Air Asia long time ago, under deal which only cost us RM42 per person one way! (KL to CNX)

While planning our itinerary, we had face some difficulties on what activities to do since we only have 3 days in Chiang Mai and we still have to save money for our next 5 days in Bangkok (Oh NOOO). And we also got some suggestion from friends that there are plenty of agent available to choose on the spot in either airport or hotel in Chiang Mai, so we ended up heading to Chiang Mai without any booking.

Itinerary as below:
Day 1: Doi Suthep, Old City, Wat Bupparam, Tha Phae Gate, Chedi Luang Watt, Night Market
Day 2: Chiang Rai One Day Trip (Hot Spring Maekacharn, Watt Rong Khun, Maesai Market, Karen Long Neck Village, Golden Triangle, Laos Duty Free Market) , Chiang Mai Night Bazaar
Day 3: Doi Inthanon, Warorot Market, Airport

Money Spent: Around RM600 for 3 days (Exclude flights)

Day 1 (8th August 2017)
Departed from KL early in the morning and arrived at Chiang Mai Airport by around 830am.

We headed to AIS service counter to buy our new Thai sim card for 7 days unlimited network with 250 baht. Highly recommended as it works pretty well in most area in Thailand (except some area in Doi Inthanon). And with the given credit of 50 baht, we continued our data plan on the last day of our trip (the 8th day) with 1 GB network.

While settling our Sim Card, a friendly woman, named Linda approached us to offer transport to our accommodation for 100 baht each person. After further talk, she even offered us tour package to others places with quite reasonable price.
After a small bargain, we took a direct package to Doi Suthep from airport and back to our hotel with 240 baht per person.

So our first stop were in Doi Suthep.
U can choose to walk upstairs with 306 steps or by cable car which cost 50 baht, which we were all regretted as the cable car was NOT outdoor and there is no view to see except wall and roof along the way! Up to there was Wat Phra That, that we stopped by for around half an hour to take photo and walk around.

Wat Phra That

Around Wat Phra That, there was a place with white gate which u can have a bird's-eye view of Chiang Mai city. Pretty nice, we love it! and a nice place to take photo as well (except for some bad manner visitors who talked so loudly and didn't know how to take turn to take photo)

After several tries to capture a nice photo HAHA

Yeah, so on the way back, we took the 306 steps stairs which along the side was flanked by mosaic Naga. Had a grilled corn (20 baht) while waiting for Linda to fetch us.
(P/s: Don't take tour package if you like to take time to explore because most of them will set a time limit. Well, we were the most unpunctual group most of the time HAHA)

My favorite --- Grilled corn

After having lunch, we headed to our accommodation --- Mandala House (RM 220 for 2 nights 4 pax, Booking from Agoda). Quite a nice place to stay with spacious room and comfortable bed and easy accessible to Old City and Night Bazaar.

After a small rest in room, we started our journey again around Old City by cycling (50 bahts per bicycle). *Remember to apply your sunscreen and wear a mouth mask if possible*. It was an unique experience as cars and motorcycles passed by you like Shuuu Shuuuu and you had to keep yourself balance all the time when crossing the roads.
Along the way, we visited to Wat Bupparam, Tha Phae Gate, Chedi Luang Watt and others unknown temples which I had forgotten theirs name.

Love the white theme of the building

Night time, we dropped by a night market near to Warorot Market and had a super delicious pork satay. A must try in Thailand. (P/s: Don't buy fruit from there especially Durian! Because we had bought a SOUR flavor durian & the stall owner even tried to ignore us until my friend insisted to stand there and the owner had no choice but to give us a new one). After that, we headed to a Pad Thai shop to have our dinner, it claimed itself as the best pad thai in Chiang Mai. So why not have a try?

Day 2 (9th August 2017)
Woke up very early in the morning today by 6am because it was going to be a long way trip today! It was Chiang Rai one day trip. We had to get ready by 7am today as it was a booked tour and we had to be punctual.

We had our breakfast at a 7-11 store nearby. HAHA I can actually settle my 3 meals from 7-11 every day as they had too many variety of foods here, from sandwich to rice and noodles and many more. So in love with here! How I wish Malaysia can improve their 7-11 store.
My Breakfast Of The Day

The van came on time by 7am and here goes our journey to Chiang Rai. It took a long time though, we spent almost 6 hours on the van back and forth.

So our trip in Chiang Rai was basically as followed:
Hot Spring Maekacharn --> White Temple --> Karen Long Neck Village --> Maesai Market -->  Buffet Lunch -->  Golden Triangle & Boat Trip --> Laos Duty Free Market

The whole journey ended at around 5.30 in the evening and it was another 3 hour journey back to Chiang Mai. We slept most on the time in the van, except for time when our tour guide explaining the history of the destination.

Hot Spring Maekacharn (Nothing much to see though)

I had write another blog about the full day details of Chiang Rai trip.
You can click on the following link for further details --> Chiang Rai One Day Trip

It was almost 9 something when we reach Chiang Mai but still haven't had our dinner yet.
So we stopped by Night Bazaar and it was EAT time again!

Day 3 (10th August 2017)
Another booked tour for half day, that was Doi Inthanon (Doi means Mountain). The package was 1,100 baht including lunch and entrance fee.

We departed at 8:30 am from Chiang Mai and it took around one and a half hour to reach the peak of Doi Inthanon. It was rainy season in Chiang Mai so our tour guide suggested to go uphill first instead of visiting the waterfalls since the weather looked fine in the morning.

Well, it was super super cold up there! We tried to cover every parts of our body as we could, but every time when a strong wind blew, we would still shivering like a leaf. So be ready! Bring along your jacket or sweater. Too bad that it was too hazy on that day, we could only see the King and Queen Towers in foggy state. I could imagine that the view would be very nice and scenic without all the fog.

As King of Thailand just passed away by year 2016, you can see white & black clothes hanging along the way to the King tower as a way to memorial him.
(One more reminder: Press on your hat or cap whenever a strong wind blow. My cap flew away for hundreds meter and we had to chase on it like a crazy people! )

After lunch, we departed to the waterfalls. I couldn't recall the name of the waterfalls, but I had to say that the waterfalls were fabulous, especially the second one. There were 3 spots that you can take photo at, the centre / downhill or uphill (They are actually just near to each, with about 1 minutes walk). And the downhill was the BEST part! The water droplets splashed all over your face and hairs along with the breeze. It was the best area to take photo as well. We love here so so much that we wished that we could just stay there forever HAHAHA

But this also means that it was the end of Doi Inthanon trip. And we departed back to our accommodation again.

Pretty nice right. Love here so much

We couldn't get enough of here. It is too beautiful

It was around 4 pm when we reach Chiang Mai. So we asked the van to stop us at Warorot Market and had a stroll around. Bought a packet of dry longan (500 gram with 170 bahts) as we heard that longan is special local product from Chiang Mai. Then, we wander around to the night bazaar and had our dinner there.
And well, this is the end of our Chiang Mai trip as we went back to our hotel to take our luggage and headed to airport to fly to Bangkok.

Another 5 days trip in Bangkok start now!
Check out my blog about Bangkok here.

**After-Trip-Review**
Well, I am a little bit regret that we did not get to go to elephant rehabilitation center this time as we are short of time and under budget (Because we still have to save money for Bangkok trip).
I will definitely come back one day and go for elephant care as well as some adventurous activities such as zipline, white water rafting etc.
Thanks Chiang Mai for giving us this wonderful memories!
